About the Technique
Acid Etched Glass, also known as French Embossing, creates patterns on the surface of glass by applying acidic, caustic, or abrasive substances which eat the glass in a controlled fashion.
This is done by first creating a plastic stencil of the pattern and fixing it onto the main glass. Acid is then poured over the stencil and the parts of the glass not covered by the stencil will take on the desired effect while the parts protected by the stencil will remain clear. A single piece of glass can have multiple different layers of acid work with different finishes to create a design.
